Sloppy Joe’s Bar, a legendary water hole only opened its doors again in 2013 following decades of hiatus after Fidel’s Revolution. This was perhaps one of the most luminous and lustrous places along with Tropicana and Salón Rojo del Capri during the 1950s when American high rollers would revel in endless parties, gambling and cabaret shows. Guests who visited this place included Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Ted Williams, John Wayne and Ernest Hemingway. Today, visitors at the bar still are immersed in the ’50s aura that defined this place. Pictures of celebrities hung neatly on the columns are just a small part that reminds them of the glamorous days. Even the plaster molding, dark wood paneling and bottle displays behind the glass were restored to match the original décor as faithfully as possible. Drinks on the menu include one of the most extensive rum collections in the city. Given the celebrity of this place, drinks are still fairly priced. Many top bottles are available for retail purchase.
