This restaurant in Old Havana just opened three years ago. But the whole team behind it has been working together for more than 24 years in restaurants like el Rancho Palco and the legendary Tocororo restaurants, with its renowned chef Tomás Erasmo, who was also in charge of all official dinners at the Palacio de las Convenciones (also known as Havana Convention Center)–which is where all official government events are held.
The restaurant is tucked away in a small street behind la Lonja del comercio (Chamber of Commerce). Located on the lower floor of a restored traditional limestone building with a few tables scattered in the pedestrian street, the food here is mainly Cuban, with pork and fish dominating the menu, which changes daily depending on the fresh ingredients available.
The quality of the food is truly exceptional. We had roasted pork leg, which was deliciously tender and flavorful. It’s served with wild rice, avocado salad and black beans. The food here is straightforward, not sophisticated–but perfectly executed and impeccably presented. The ingredients are top notch, and you can tell that because there is a genuinely gifted and creative chef at work here. As you might imagine, a professional team like this translates into flawless and friendly service. This is highly recommended and a great value for the quality of the whole experience.
