Cubans citizens receive free medical care through a national health service. Visitors are served by a separate fee-based system, SERVIMED, which is also the backbone of Cuba’s medical tourism industry. The Cira García hospital is a major provider of medical services to foreigners in Havana. It is located in Miramar, and is viewed as providing a high standard of care.
In case of an accident or other emergency, foreigners could, depending on circumstances, be taken to the nearest emergency center (possibly one that is part of the Cuban health system) for initial assessment, then referred as appropriate to a SERVIMED clinic.
