Hotel Parque Central

Hotel Parque Central
Lobby at Parque Central

Rates: Doubles from $317 CUC and up

Basics:

Until the Saratoga was operational this was the best hotel in Havana. This attractive, large (427-room) hotel in Parque Central, opened in the ’90s, is one of the newer additions to the city’s roster of top hotels. It enjoys a strong reputation for its comprehensive line of services, spacious rooms, good facilities, and friendly staff. It consists of two independent buildings joined by an underground tunnel, adorned with photographs of Havana’s famous seafront promenade Malecón. One side of the hotel – the colonial style building – was built in 1998. Later, in 2005 the hotel expanded its services and opened another wing, a stylish and modern lodging tower. Staff are very friendly and speak good English.

Rooms:

The rooms here are more rustic than those at the Saratoga, spacious but not elaborate. They include a hair dryer, telephone, satellite TV, safe deposit box, and ironing board. Tea and coffee makers are offered upon request. WiFi is available for an additional charge. The most expensive room in the hotel is the Presidential Suite, around $1,000 CUC a night. In addition, the hotel has 10 conference rooms, one of which can hold up to 200 people, making this an increasingly popular venue for business events and travel.

Location:

Overlooking the Parque Central in the heart of Centro Habana, the hotel is within walking distance of nearly all attractions in the area. The green boulevard Prado is just next to the hotel. The El Capitolio, the Hemingway’s El Floridita bar and the famous seafront promenade Malecón are within a five minutes’ walk. The city’s Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and Museo de la Revolución are also within short walking distance.

Amenities:

The hotel’s restaurant Mediterraneo, located in the colonial-style building, serves a breakfast buffet and Italian-inspired fare at lunch and dinner. Another restaurant, El Paseo, offers great grilled meat. There is also an a-la-carte restaurant, Habana Elegante. In addition to regular lobby bars for refreshment, there is a smoking bar for cigar lovers. The hotel has a rooftop swimming pool on each building. The hotel offers day care service for children under four years old, and has a limited number of accessible rooms.
