Its name may not attract much attention, but Camino al Sol (meaning Road to the Sun in English) certainly has much to contribute to Havana’s current dining scene. Vegetarian restaurants in the city are extremely rare, and none quite as conveniently located as this one. If you talk about food with any Cuban you will realize that “protein”, as they colloquially call meat, fish and even eggs, cannot be missing from their plate. But this new vegan jewel in Vedado offers the possibility of discovering a type of cuisine unknown to many and can expand the culinary horizons of even the most carnivorous of Cubans.
Camino al Sol stands out for its immaculate simple interior design and the incredible freshness of its dishes. Recipes are often original and sometimes elaborate, using seasonal ingredients all from Cuba which are delicious and well balanced on the palate.
Star dishes include exquisite fresh pasta; complex variations with eggplant; and concoctions with spinach, sweet potato, yucca, millet, rice and whole wheat bread; tasty desserts; and freshly squeezed natural juices. All are made in-house and marked at great prices. Take-away is also available. This restaurant is definitely a rarity in Havana that you have to try: visit and let us know your thoughts.
